Edward Nagel, Principal of nagel + associates inc., is pleased to be co-chairing the upcoming health care fraud conference organized by the Ontario Hospital Association, to be held in downtown Toronto. The conference is particularly geared towards Chief Financial Officers, Vice Presidents, Directors, Managers of Finance, Accounting, Audit and Risk Management. The theme of the conference is Health Care Fraud: Are you Protecting your Funding Dollars, Privacy and Reputation?

While estimates vary, it is safe to say that health care fraud costs Canadians billions of dollars each year. Like other types of fraud, it is a multifaceted issue, as it comes in a variety of forms that can be difficult to detect. What makes health care fraud so pervasive is the fact that it can be perpetrated by practically any user of the health care system, such as patients, health care providers, staff and administrators, and medical device manufacturers. Whatever the source, health care fraud comes at a high cost to us all.
