Auditors’ obligations to consider fraud in the audit of financial statements has changed significantly, as a result of the high-profile frauds that emerged during the past decade.  According to the Canadian Auditing Standards (CASs), an auditor is responsible for obtaining reasonable assurance that the financial statements taken as a whole are free from material misstatement, whether caused by fraud or error.  Auditors are concerned about fraud that causes material misstatements to financial statements, which result from fraudulent financial reporting and misappropriation of assets. At the conclusion of this two-day, interactive fraud awareness training course, participants will take away the following:

  • An understanding of what is fraud, indicators to look out for and how to incorporate this information into audit/review procedures
  • The knowledge and practical skills necessary to increase the level of skepticism, in order to help uncover fraud in an audit
  • An understanding of the auditors’ obligations to consider fraud
  • How to conduct effective interviews of management and brainstorm discussions
  • Hands-on experience identifying fraud from break-out sessions involving two-comprehensive, real-life case studies that will cover a variety of high-risk areas susceptible to fraud (in the context of an audit and review engagement respectively)
